Forestry and Wildlife Sciences Building. Topics: overview of prescribed burning:
why we burn, how we prepare an area to burn, who to hire burning in young
longleaf, lessons learned reintroducing fire to older longleaf pine stands
managing early successional habitat using fire emphasis on bobwhite quail and
longleaf pine surrogates to fire (mechanical & chemical) - how they affect longleaf pine management and
wildlife species, cost share programs available. Field trip to Macon County.
Demonstrations: effects of burning young, planted longleaf pine, effects of
reintroducing fire to suppressed stands, surrogates to fire (mechanical,
